The Barrie Sharks used a potent offensive attack and a stellar goaltending performance to secure a decisive 7-3 victory over the Cambridge Rivulettes in U22 Elite action. The game opened with Cambridge striking first, as Ava Strome found the back of the net just 54 seconds into the contest, assisted by Lauren Stiles and Jenna Charron. The Sharks, however, quickly settled in and responded with authority. Mae Severn tied the game midway through the period before Kate Stuart capitalized on a power play opportunity, giving Barrie a lead they would not relinquish. Madeline McKay added another even-strength tally in the final minute of the first, sending the Sharks to the intermission with a 3-1 advantage and momentum firmly on their side.
The second period saw the Rivulettes attempt a comeback, with Lacey Rivers cutting the deficit to one goal early on. Barrie’s Kathleen Dion, however, proved to be a key figure, restoring the two-goal cushion with a goal assisted by Severn and Piper Sebben. Dion wasn't finished, striking again in the final minute of the period, this time with helpers from Adrielle Charette and Abrianne Brumwell, to give the Sharks a commanding 5-2 lead heading into the third. The period was marred by a series of penalties, including matching unsporting conduct calls to Barrie’s Jennifer Keller and Cambridge’s Kendra Restauri, setting a physical tone that would carry over.
The final frame saw tensions boil over. Cambridge managed a power-play goal from Kendra Restauri to make it 5-3, but the Rivulettes' discipline unraveled in the closing minutes. A sequence involving Ella Neil and Sadie D'Angela resulted in a major penalty for unsporting conduct against D'Angela, effectively ending any comeback hopes. Barrie sealed the deal with two late goals: an unassisted marker from Mae Severn to complete her multi-point night, and an empty-netter from Kaia Harbec. The story in the crease belonged to Barrie’s Ryleigh Maxwell, who turned aside all 33 shots she faced for a shutout performance, while the Cambridge netminders, Addison Mitchell and Courtney Beeksma, combined to allow seven goals on 27 shots. The Sharks' special teams and Maxwell's flawless goaltending were the ultimate difference-makers in this convincing win.
