The Durham West Lightning set the tone early and never looked back, cruising to a commanding 5-1 victory over the London Devilettes in U22 Elite action. From the opening puck drop, the Lightning established a relentless offensive presence, outshooting the Devilettes 22-8 in the first period alone. Their pressure paid off at the 9:03 mark when Peyton Fleming found the back of the net to give Durham West a lead they would never relinquish. Despite a couple of early penalties to Pippa Green and Uma Peterson, the Lightning's defense and goaltender Amelia Wilkinson held firm, turning away every London opportunity in the opening frame.
The second period saw the Lightning extend their lead with a pair of crucial goals. Madison Bryk struck first, assisted by Allie Mitchell, to make it 2-0. Later in the period, Savannah Halleran converted a setup from Bryk and Neve Thatcher, pushing the advantage to three. London struggled to generate a sustained attack against the stifling Durham West defense, and their frustration showed with penalties to Leah Milligan and Colbie Farr. The Devilettes' goaltender, Ella Gracey, faced a barrage of 48 shots on the night and made several key saves to keep her team within striking distance, but the offensive support simply wasn't there.
Any hope of a London comeback was briefly ignited early in the third when Emma Boere scored, assisted by Emma Bovin and Avery Thomsen, to cut the deficit to 3-1. However, the Lightning responded with authority. Just over a minute later, Renee Lapointe restored the three-goal cushion with a helper from Soren Biderman. The final nail in the coffin came from Mackenzie Riches, who netted the game-winning goal with assists from Mitchell and Eden Bergman, sealing the 5-1 final. Amelia Wilkinson was a wall in net for Durham West, stopping 22 of 23 shots for a stellar performance, while her team's disciplined, high-octane offense proved too much for London to handle on this night.
