The Mississauga Hurricanes set the tone early and rode a strong defensive effort to a 3-1 victory over the Toronto Aeros. The home side came out flying, outshooting the Aeros 17-10 in the opening frame. Their pressure paid off just over six minutes into the game when Tiani Makokis, wearing #37, found the back of the net. She was set up by a nice play from Sarah Staley and kate pasma, giving the Hurricanes a lead they would never relinquish. The period saw some chippy play, with penalties to Toronto's Jaelyn Mundy and Mississauga's Sophia Aquino and Sarah Staley, but the Hurricanes' penalty kill stood tall to preserve the early advantage.
Mississauga broke the game open with a quick-strike offensive in the second period. Just over four minutes in, Annabelle Kruzich (#17) doubled the lead, assisted by Olivia Aquino. A mere 41 seconds later, the roles reversed as Olivia Aquino (#10) buried one herself, with helpers from Kika Ho and the goal-scorer Kruzich, pushing the lead to 3-0. The Hurricanes continued to control the shot clock, and goaltender Olivia Hepburn was a wall when called upon. The Aeros struggled to generate consistent offense, and a late interference penalty to Mundy again stalled any momentum they tried to build.
The third period saw the Aeros push desperately to get back into the game. They finally solved Hepburn on the power play at the 3:21 mark, as Sophia Liu (#7) converted a feed from Claire Severn to cut the deficit to 3-1. The Aeros outshot the Hurricanes 10-6 in the final frame, but Hepburn and the Mississauga defense locked things down. The game ended with some tension, as Hurricanes' Keira Owen took a double-minor for butt-ending with just over five minutes to play, but the Aeros could not capitalize on the extended power play. In the end, Olivia Hepburn's stellar 35-save performance and a balanced offensive attack from the Hurricanes proved too much for Toronto, securing a solid home-ice win.
