The Mississauga Hurricanes built an early lead and held off a persistent Durham West Lightning squad to secure a 3-2 victory in a hard-fought OWHL U22 Elite contest. The Hurricanes struck first, as Tiani Makokis, wearing number 37, found the back of the net just over five minutes into the opening period, assisted by Sarah Staley. Mississauga doubled their lead in the second when Staley, number 66, converted a chance set up by Jaime Theron and Kika Ho to make it 2-0. The Lightning finally broke through late in the middle frame, as Savannah Halleran scored off a feed from Uma Peterson and Madison Bryk to cut the deficit to one heading into the third.
The final period saw a flurry of action. The Hurricanes restored their two-goal cushion early, with Kate Pasma, number 13, scoring just 17 seconds into the period, assisted by Olivia Aquino and Annabelle Kruzich. Durham West refused to go quietly, and Eden Bergman brought them back within one midway through the period, with Bryk picking up her second helper of the night. The game's tension was amplified by a series of late penalties, including a pair of too-many-players infractions against both teams in the final two minutes. Despite a late push with the extra attacker after a cross-checking penalty to Durham's Bryk as time expired, the Lightning couldn't find the equalizer.
The story in the crease was one of stark contrast, heavily influencing the final score. Mississauga's Kalia Pharand, in net wearing number 29, turned in a stellar performance, stopping 27 of 29 shots to backstop her team to the win. At the other end, Durham West's Amelia Wilkinson faced a barrage, making an incredible 33 saves on 36 shots to keep her team in the game, but ultimately took the hard-luck loss. The Hurricanes' ability to generate consistent pressure, outshooting the Lightning 36-29, proved to be the difference in a game where every inch of ice was contested.
