The Mississauga Hurricanes put on a special teams clinic and rode a multi-point performance from Olivia Aquino to a decisive 5-1 victory over the Waterloo Ravens. From the opening puck drop, the Hurricanes established control, outshooting the Ravens 13-6 in the first period and striking twice to build a lead they would never relinquish. Haylee-Kaydance Lecuyer opened the scoring midway through the first, and Aquino doubled the advantage just over three minutes later, with an assist from Sophia Block, to notch what would stand as the game-winning goal. The Ravens' penalty trouble began early with a cross-checking call against Lauren Gustafson, setting a tone for a game where discipline would be a key factor.
Waterloo showed a spark in the second period, finally solving Hurricanes' goalie Olivia Hepburn on the power play. Margaret Wathke, assisted by addyson martin and Isla McCoubrey, cut the deficit to 2-1 early in the frame. That momentum was short-lived, however, as the Hurricanes' power play unit took over. Just over a minute after a Waterloo penalty, Aquino struck again on the man-advantage to restore the two-goal cushion. Later in the period, with the Ravens again shorthanded, Bronwyn Langis converted a feed from Aquino to make it 4-1, capping a period where Mississauga scored twice on three power-play opportunities against Ravens netminder Danica Averill.
The third period saw the Hurricanes continue to apply pressure and capitalize on their chances. Tiani Makokis put the final nail in the coffin with another power-play goal, assisted by Block and Casey Peddle, to extend the lead to 5-1. The Ravens, despite generating a game-high 14 shots in the final frame, could not find a way past Hepburn, who turned aside all 33 shots she faced for a strong performance in net. The Hurricanes' penalty kill was perfect, shutting down all four of Waterloo's opportunities, while their power play went a lethal 3-for-5, proving to be the ultimate difference in a comprehensive road win.
