The Barrie Sharks came out flying on home ice, dictating the pace early and peppering the Waterloo net with 10 first-period shots. Their pressure paid off at the 16:34 mark when Madeline McKay, wearing number 13, found the back of the net. She was set up beautifully by Kathleen Dion and Jennifer Keller to give the Sharks a 1-0 lead. Despite taking an early penalty, the Ravens' defense, anchored by goalie Danica Averill, held firm under the barrage. Averill was perfect on the night, turning aside all 33 shots she faced to record a shutout, a remarkable feat given the Sharks' 35-15 shot advantage.
The game's momentum shifted dramatically in the second period. The Ravens began to solve Sharks' goalie Avah Sedore, who had been stellar up to that point. Maya Slot, number 66 for Waterloo, became the offensive catalyst, tying the game at 1-1 with a goal assisted by Isla McCoubrey late in the period. Just over two minutes later, Summer Ropp gave the Ravens their first lead, with assists from Allison Gauley and the red-hot Slot. Before the period ended, Slot struck again, netting her second of the game to extend the lead to 3-1. The period was marred by penalties, including a double-minor for head contact to the Sharks' Adrielle Charette, which the Ravens' penalty kill successfully navigated.
The third period saw the Sharks throw everything at the Ravens in a desperate attempt to mount a comeback, unleashing 15 more shots. However, Danica Averill was an impenetrable wall in the Waterloo crease, turning aside chance after chance. The Ravens played a disciplined, defensive structure in front of her, blocking lanes and limiting high-danger opportunities despite being outshot. A couple of late penalties by Waterloo did little to slow the Sharks' offensive push, but they could not solve Averill. The final horn sounded on a 3-1 victory for the Waterloo Ravens, a testament to opportunistic scoring and phenomenal goaltending overcoming a significant shot deficit. Maya Slot's two-goal performance, including the game-winner from Summer Ropp, powered the Ravens' offense, while Avah Sedore's 33 saves for Barrie kept them in a game where they ultimately could not crack the code at the other end of the ice.
