The Durham West Lightning set the tone early and never looked back, securing a decisive 4-1 victory over the Whitby Wolves in U22 Elite action. The home side came out flying, peppering the Whitby net with 13 first-period shots. Their pressure paid off almost immediately, as Uma Peterson, assisted by Madison Bryk and Pippa Green, found the back of the net just 57 seconds into the contest. That early goal gave the Lightning a lead they would not relinquish, despite a second-period head contact penalty to Caprie Chaulk that briefly gave Whitby momentum.
The Lightning weathered that storm and then delivered a crushing one-two punch in the middle frame. First, Caprie Chaulk redeemed herself by converting a setup from Madison Bryk and Athanasia Michanos for the eventual game-winning goal. Just over a minute later, with Whitby's Macy Murray in the box for interference, Savannah Halleran capitalized on the power play, finishing a feed from Renee Lapointe to extend the lead to 3-0. Whitby pushed back hard in the second and third periods, outshooting Durham West 20-15 over the final 40 minutes, but goaltender Darby Oakes was a wall, turning aside all 25 shots she faced for a complete-game victory.
The Wolves finally broke through late in the third period when Cassandra Cardone scored, with helpers from Whitney Basso and Irelyn Death, to spoil Oakes' shutout bid. Any thought of a comeback was extinguished shortly after, however, as Madison Bryk, who had already tallied two assists, sealed the win with an empty-net goal from Savannah Halleran and Sarah Aquilina. Bryk's three-point night was a standout performance, driving the Lightning's offense and helping them secure a convincing win on home ice.
