The North York Storm came out flying in the first period, dominating the shot count 12-5 and finding the back of the net early. Just over four minutes into the game, Reese Halliday, wearing number 6, converted an even-strength chance with assists from Laryssa Mayer and Makayla Dunn to give the home team a 1-0 lead. The Storm's pressure continued, but Toronto Aeros goaltender Samantha Besner, number 33, stood tall, weathering the early storm and keeping her team within striking distance. The Aeros found themselves in penalty trouble early, taking two minors in the opening frame, but the Storm's power play couldn't extend their lead.
The momentum shifted in the second period. After a tripping penalty to the Storm's Olivia Lehti, the Aeros capitalized on the power play. Ella Harding, number 96, buried the equalizer with assists from Jessica Kovac and Sophia Liu, knotting the game at 1-1. The Storm's discipline wavered as Amber Nazir took two hooking penalties, but their penalty kill, backed by goalie Kaitlyn Earl, held firm to keep the game tied heading into the final period. Despite the Storm holding a 28-16 shot advantage through two periods, Besner's stellar play kept the Aeros alive.
The third period was a tense, defensive affair with both teams managing only a handful of shots. The game seemed destined for overtime until, with just under two minutes remaining, the Aeros struck for the game-winner. Claire Severn, number 26, scored an even-strength goal to silence the home crowd and put Toronto ahead 2-1. A late tripping penalty to the Aeros' Ella Harding gave the Storm a final power play chance, but they couldn't solve Besner again. The Aeros goaltender finished with a perfect 28-save performance to steal the victory, while Kaitlyn Earl was a hard-luck loser, making 14 saves in the narrow defeat.
