The Mississauga Hurricanes showcased their resilience and offensive depth, overcoming an early deficit to defeat the Kingston Ice Wolves 5-2 in a spirited U22 Elite matchup. The Ice Wolves struck first, with Caitlyn Wimmer finding the net off assists from Jocelyn Osborn and Chloe Trotter midway through the opening period. The Hurricanes, however, responded with authority. Maria Mazi tied the game just over two minutes later, and Annabelle Kruzich gave Mississauga the lead for good before the first intermission, with both goals set up by Marissa Gloyns.
The Hurricanes extended their lead in the second period thanks to Bronwyn Langis, who converted a feed from Olivia Aquino. Despite being outshot 12-10 in the middle frame, the Hurricanes' defense and goaltender Kalia Pharand held firm. Pharand's performance was a cornerstone of the victory, as she turned aside all 24 shots she faced for a shutout after the first goal. The Ice Wolves' Lilyana Reid was under constant pressure in the Kingston net, facing a barrage of 34 shots through two periods. A parade to the penalty box for both teams in the second and third periods created a choppy flow, but the Hurricanes' penalty kill was ultimately up to the task.
Kingston managed to claw one back on a late third-period power play, with Kaylynn Fisher scoring to make it 3-2. Any hope of a comeback was snuffed out in the final minutes, however. Olivia Aquino sealed the victory with an empty-net goal, and Tiani Makokis added a final exclamation point in the closing seconds, assisted by Langis and Kruzich. The game ended on a sour note with a head contact penalty against Aquino at the final buzzer, but it did little to dampen the Hurricanes' celebration of a complete team effort, led by a stellar goaltending performance and key contributions up and down the lineup.
