The Mississauga Hurricanes used a dominant second period and a lethal power play to secure a decisive 4-1 victory over the Toronto Leaside Wildcats. The game opened with a flurry of penalties, but it was the Hurricanes who struck first. Midway through the opening frame, Annabelle Kruzich, wearing number 17, found the back of the net with an even-strength tally, assisted by sophia block and Haylee-Kaydance Lecuyer. The Wildcats answered back in the final minute of the period, however, as Avery Mann capitalized on a shorthanded opportunity, set up by Kathryn Downey and Abby Carr, to knot the game at 1-1 heading into the intermission.
The middle frame was all Mississauga, as they unleashed a staggering 28 shots and took full advantage of a parade of Toronto penalties. The Hurricanes' power play unit went to work, scoring three times in a seven-minute span. Casey Peddle broke the tie with a power-play marker, assisted twice by Sarah Staley. Kika Ho then extended the lead, with Lecuyer and Kruzich picking up the helpers. Just over a minute later, Taia MacDonald delivered the knockout blow on the man-advantage, with Staley and kate pasma earning assists to make it 4-1. The Wildcats' discipline faltered, taking five minors in the period, and they simply could not contain the Hurricanes' offensive onslaught or solve goaltender Olivia Hepburn.
The third period saw the Hurricanes manage their lead, and despite a couple of late penalties, they shut the door completely. Olivia Hepburn was a wall in net for Mississauga, turning aside all 25 shots she faced after the first-period goal to earn the win. The Wildcats' Grace Robitaille faced a relentless barrage, seeing 59 shots in a valiant losing effort. The story of the game was the Hurricanes' special teams, converting three power-play goals, and their overwhelming shot volume, which proved too much for Toronto to overcome in this OWHL U22 Elite matchup.
