The Toronto Leaside Wildcats seized control early and withstood a fierce third-period comeback attempt to edge the Nepean Wildcats 3-2 on the road. Leaside's offense was humming from the opening face-off, outshooting Nepean 12-8 in the first period and capitalizing on an early power play. Just 28 seconds after Nepean's Rébécca Pollard was sent off for hooking, Leaside's Greer Thompson, assisted by Aoife Boyle and Blake Givelas, found the back of the net to give the visitors a lead they would never relinquish. Leaside goaltender Isabella Lane, while not credited with any official saves in the tracked statistics, was a wall in the first two periods, turning aside all 16 shots she faced as her team built a commanding lead.
The middle frame saw Leaside extend their advantage with a pair of even-strength tallies. First, Kathryn Downey, with a helper from Jacqueline Kean, made it 2-0. Just over five minutes later, Downey turned playmaker, teaming up with Brooklynn Vito to set up Geneva Tan-Roy for what would prove to be the crucial game-winning goal. The period was marred by a flurry of penalties, including a double-minor for kneeing against Leaside's Abby Carr and a boarding call against Tan-Roy, but Nepean's power play could not break through Lane's stellar netminding.
Facing a three-goal deficit, the Nepean Wildcats mounted a desperate and thrilling third-period surge, unleashing 13 shots to Leaside's 6. Their persistence finally paid off when Kylie Hollingsworth, assisted by Mikèle Camirand and Mallea McMullin, got the home side on the board with just over a minute gone in the period. The momentum fully shifted to Nepean, and with under three minutes to play, Camirand completed a nice passing play from Hollingsworth and Isabella Donaldson to cut the lead to 3-2. Despite a late power play chance and pulling goalie Serra Yildir for an extra attacker, Nepean could not find the equalizer. Yildir finished with 26 saves in a valiant losing effort, while Leaside's disciplined defense and timely goaltending secured the narrow victory.
