The Mississauga Hurricanes rode a perfect performance from goaltender Kalia Pharand and a two-goal night from Annabelle Kruzich to a 2-0 road victory over the Barrie Sharks in U22 Elite action. Pharand was the undisputed star of the show, turning aside all 26 shots she faced to record a shutout, while her teammates provided just enough offense to secure the win.
The game's turning point came early in the first period. With Barrie's Sadie Frantz in the box for hooking, the Hurricanes' power play went to work. At the 7:43 mark, Annabelle Kruzich, assisted by Bronwyn Langis, found the back of the net to give Mississauga a crucial 1-0 lead. The Sharks struggled with discipline in the opening frame, taking three minor penalties that disrupted their flow and allowed the Hurricanes to build momentum. Despite outshooting Mississauga 11-9 in the period, Barrie could not solve Pharand.
Mississauga tightened their grip on the game in the second period, dominating possession and outshooting the Sharks 14-5. Their pressure paid off just over three minutes into the frame when Annabelle Kruzich struck again, this time at even strength. Haylee-Kaydance Lecuyer picked up the helper on the play, extending the lead to 2-0. Barrie goaltender Avah Sedore was under siege for much of the period, making several key saves to keep her team within striking distance. The Sharks pushed back with a 10-shot third period, but Kalia Pharand and the Hurricanes' defense stood firm, closing the door to preserve the clean sheet and the two points.
