The Whitby Wolves set the tone early and never looked back, cruising to a decisive 4-1 victory over the Ottawa Senators in U22 Elite action. From the opening puck drop, the Wolves established a relentless forecheck, outshooting the Senators 12-3 in the first period. Despite a pair of early Ottawa penalties, the game remained scoreless through the first twenty minutes. The dam finally broke in the final minute of the second period when Haedyn Leeson, assisted by Maeve Aird and Neve Murphy, found the back of the net to give Whitby a crucial 1-0 lead heading into the final frame.
The third period was all Whitby as they broke the game open. Gabriella MacAlpine doubled the lead early, finishing a play from Katie Belk and Kali Maechtel. Just three minutes later, Belk returned the favor, scoring a goal of her own with assists from MacAlpine and Stella Pittis to make it 3-0. Ottawa managed to break goaltender Sarah McKechnie's shutout bid midway through the period when Lexie Hatoum scored, assisted by Avery Wojtyk. However, any hope of a Senators comeback was extinguished in the final minutes when Neve Murphy sealed the win with an empty-net goal, assisted by Whitney Basso and Haedyn Leeson. The Wolves' offensive depth was on full display with seven different players recording points.
Defensively, the Wolves were just as impressive, limiting Ottawa to only 18 shots on the night. Goaltender Sarah McKechnie was solid in net, turning aside 17 of 18 shots for the win. The Senators' Cameron Garcia faced a barrage, stopping 35 of 39 shots in a valiant effort. Penalties were a factor, with Ottawa taking five minors to Whitby's three, but the Wolves' penalty kill was perfect. The victory was a complete team effort for Whitby, showcasing their speed, structure, and scoring touch in a commanding performance.
