The Waterloo Ravens and Toronto Aeros delivered a classic, back-and-forth battle that came down to the final period, with the Ravens ultimately securing a hard-fought 4-3 victory on home ice. The Ravens came out flying, establishing a physical presence and a two-goal lead in the first period. Kylie Rayfield opened the scoring for Waterloo, finishing off a play from Madelyn Davies. The lead doubled just minutes later when Isla McCoubrey found the back of the net, assisted by Julia Annett. The period was not without its chippy moments, however, as both teams combined for five minor penalties, including a boarding call against Waterloo's Margaret Wathke and a late cross-checking penalty on Alexa Tout, setting a tense tone for the remainder of the contest.
Toronto showed their resilience in the second period, clawing their way back into the game. Hayley Armstrong got the Aeros on the board, converting a setup from Ruby Owen. The comeback was completed later in the frame when Amanda Hodgins scored, assisted by Jessica Kovac, knotting the game at 2-2 heading into the third. The Ravens held a significant shot advantage through two periods, but Aeros goaltender Samantha Besner was keeping her team in the fight, facing a barrage of 27 shots.
The final frame was a rollercoaster of special teams and momentum swings. Just six seconds after a Toronto penalty, the Ravens' Summer Ropp capitalized on the power play, with Olivia Weiss and Madelyn Davies picking up the assists to restore Waterloo's lead. The Aeros answered back with lightning speed, as Emma Hung scored less than a minute later, assisted by Sophie Gauld, to tie the game once more at 3-3. The game-winner came midway through the period when Emma McCoubrey scored a crucial even-strength goal, assisted by her sister Isla McCoubrey. Despite a late push and a final penalty by Toronto's Claire Severn, the Ravens' defense and goaltender Teagan Mason held firm, securing the win. Mason stopped 27 of 30 shots for the victory, while her counterpart, Samantha Besner, made an impressive 42 saves in a valiant losing effort for the Aeros.
