The Durham West Lightning stormed to a 7-4 victory over the Brampton Canadettes in a U22 Elite contest defined by a relentless offensive barrage. From the opening puck drop, the Lightning established control, firing 13 shots in the first period alone to Brampton's 4. Their pressure paid off early and often. Caprie Chaulk opened the scoring for Durham West, but Brampton's Carly Henry answered back to tie the game, assisted by Avery Gillespie and Kristina Eccleston. The tie was short-lived, however, as the Lightning unleashed a three-goal surge in a span of just over five minutes. Renee Lapointe, Madison Bryk, and Savannah Halleran all found the back of the net, with Bryk and Halleran combining on a quick-strike play just seven seconds apart, sending Durham West into the first intermission with a commanding 4-1 lead.
The second period saw the Lightning continue to dominate possession, adding two more goals to their tally. Lorelai Himle capitalized on a power play chance, and Soren Biderman scored at even strength to extend the lead to 6-1. Brampton, facing a significant deficit, showed signs of life late in the frame. Anika Mahon netted a goal, with helpers from Adiah VanEngen and Samantha Brown, to cut into the lead and give the Canadettes a spark heading into the third. That momentum carried over after the break, as Brampton mounted a fierce comeback attempt. Adiah VanEngen scored on the power play, and just 21 seconds later, Emma Sulpher buried another to suddenly make it a 6-4 game with over three minutes remaining.
The dramatic comeback bid, however, was ultimately halted by the clock and a final Lightning strike. Despite being outshot 39-14 overall, Brampton's late push showcased their resilience. Yet, Durham West's Mackenzie Riches sealed the deal with an empty-net goal in the final minute, putting the exclamation point on a win built on overwhelming shot volume and efficient scoring. While the Canadettes' late rally made the scoreboard respectable, the Lightning's early dominance and consistent offensive pressure proved to be the decisive factor in this high-scoring showdown.
