The Barrie Sharks skated to a narrow 4-3 victory over the OHA Mavericks in a game that featured special teams drama and a standout individual performance. The Mavericks struck first on the power play, capitalizing on an early penalty to the Sharks. Anabel Seyrer, assisted by Johanna Tischler and Charleen Poindl, found the back of the net to give OHA the lead. The home team doubled their advantage just before the first intermission when Charleen Poindl scored an even-strength goal, with help from Krisztina Weiler, to take a commanding 2-0 lead into the break.
The second period, however, belonged entirely to the Barrie Sharks and forward Jennifer Keller. The Sharks began their comeback just 41 seconds into the frame, as Sadie Frantz scored off a feed from Adrielle Charette. Keller then took over, scoring two even-strength goals of her own. Her first, assisted by Annabella Cosgrave and Sadie Frantz, tied the game, and her second, an unassisted tally, gave the Sharks their first lead of the night at 3-2. The momentum had completely shifted, putting the Mavericks on their heels.
The third period saw the Sharks extend their lead on the power play, with Piper Sebben converting a setup from Kate Stuart and Mae Severn to make it 4-2. The Mavericks refused to go quietly, pulling a goal back on their own power play in the final minutes. Gabriela Lacna scored, with Makayla Grove and Charleen Poindl earning assists, to cut the deficit to 4-3 and set up a frantic finish. Despite a late push, the Mavericks could not find the equalizer. Goaltenders Avah Sedore for Barrie and Laurie Deguire for OHA battled all night, with Sedore earning the win in a contest where both netminders faced a barrage of shots in a fast-paced, penalty-filled affair.
